About the conference

On the back of winning an historic third term, Prime Minister Modi has a mandate to realise his ambitious plans for India to become a bio-economy superpower. His commitment to delivering on his Waste to Wealth Mission, the central focus of India’s Presidency of the G20 in 2023, was made apparent during the election campaign.

Shortly before the election, PM Modi affirmed his country’s commitment to see 5,000 large scale compressed biogas plants commissioned before 2030 – representing a 100-fold increase in the scale of the sector. He also highlighted the strategic importance of India’s G20 Global Biofuels Alliance initiative, of which the World Biogas Association (WBA) is one of 12 founding international organisations, saying this will promote the adoption of biofuels globally and ‘help in creating economic opportunities worth around $500bn’.

It is against this positive backdrop that the WBA will be hosting the 2nd World Biogas Association India Congress. This will seek to build on the firm foundations established at the inaugural high-level Congress. This year, the Congress will focus on detailing a framework to allow for the rapid scaling of the industry. WBA has been working on this framework in collaboration with national biogas stakeholders at Federal, State and municipal level, and across the industrial waste sectors – from food and beverage manufacture, agriculture and urban waste management.

The WBA INDIA Congress 2024 represents the first opportunity for stakeholders to gain insight into the emerging policy and regulatory challenges, finance and investment opportunities, and how to solve feedstock challenges and create revenue streams from biogas co-products, such as digestate and bioCO 2 .
